Robert Shilkret's research deals with college students' development, including how they accomplish goals and overcome unconscious obstructions, and the relations between earlier parenting experiences and college adjustment.

Shilkret has taught Introduction to Developmental Psychology; Concepts of Abnormality; Psychoanalytic Psychology (seminar); Laboratory in Personality Research: Quantitative Methods; Laboratory in Psychological Assessment; and First Love: Attachment Theory and Research (seminar).
