Charlotte Rich

Charlotte Rich is a life-long steward and resident of the Chesapeake Bay Watershed. She is proud to be known as a nonprofit networker, an interweaver of multiple roles as educator, environmentalist and cultural practitioner. Her nonprofit career focuses on identifying the unique challenges that emerge at the intersections of culture and the environment within communities. Rich works collaboratively with multicultural communities to create organizational practices for sustaining their environmental, social, and economic planning.

As the Director of Education for the Annapolis Maritime Museum and in working with other organizations, Rich has developed numerous environmental and cultural programs, policies, strategies, overseeing fundraising campaigns, managed staff and operations of programs up to $1,000,000.  Her work with communities include: lecturing and teaching about the Bay’s oyster culture, industry, and ecology, documenting and writing ethnographies about the unique cultures of the Bay’s watershed such as watermen, oystermen, and tobacco farmers and working with clients on developing sustainable organizational practices and programs. These best practices of teaching, listening, and collaborating with diverse communities are the culmination of 17 years of priceless moments for her.

In 2000, Rich earned a B.A. in Environmental Studies from Washington College and 2016 Dual masters in Cultural Sustainability and Management from Goucher College. During graduate school, Charlotte interned with the Maryland Nonprofit’s Standards for Excellence Institute. In 2012, Rich started consulting with nonprofits and in 2016, she incorporated her practice as Bay Region Advisory LLC to continue her work with new clients in the areas of cultural competency, environmental literacy, and economic planning. She continues to work with Maryland Nonprofits as a Licensed Consultant and staff reviewer for their Standards for Excellence Accreditation and Recognition Program. She is on the Board of Directors of the Maryland Association of Environmental Outdoor Education (MAEOE). 

During her leisure time Rich enjoys relaxing with her dog Chili and chickens on her farm north of Frederick, Maryland.  She has also spent memorable winters in Baja Sur, Mexico; surfing, camping, and enjoying fish tacos.
