Katherine Bassett is the Chief Executive Officer of the New Jersey Tutoring Corps. Bassett. Bassett applies her broad background in education policy, standards development, research, assessment, fundraising, and nonprofit management to lead efforts that expand high-impact tutoring across the state. Throughout her career in education, Bassett has advocated for students to receive the highest quality of education regardless of their zip code or family circumstances. She was named New Jersey’s 2000 State Teacher of the Year and served as President and CEO of the National Network of State Teachers of the Year for more than five years. Bassett holds an Ed.M. from Rowan University and a post-baccalaureate certificate in Computers in Education from Rowan. Bassett spent 26 years in the classroom as a middle school librarian. As Director of the Educator Relations Group at ETS, she led the development of the National Board for Professional Teaching Standards certificates for Library Media and Literacy, the development of performance-based assessments in seven states, worked with six states to develop a common continuum of practice, and developed a statewide evaluation system for Kansas. She served as Director of Policy and Partnerships for the Center for Educator Effectiveness at Pearson, working to support research into educator practice and self-efficacy. Among her proudest accomplishments, she led development of the Teacher Leader Model Standards now used in more than 20 countries and co-led development of the Model Code of Ethics for Educators. She has served as lead researcher on over 15 publications. Finally, Bassett is proud to serve as an adjunct professor at Mt. Holyoke as part of the Master's in Teacher Leadership program.
