To the entire Mount Holyoke community:

The past few weeks have been challenging for us all. The speed with which the novel coronavirus is spreading has required Mount Holyoke, and colleges and universities around the world, to adapt very quickly. I am so grateful for the many ways in which our community has risen to these challenges, and I am inspired by the collaboration, grace, and generosity with which you have all approached this effort. This video message is a more personal expression of my thanks, as well as a more direct way of providing you with some information.

Among the many difficult decisions we have had to make is the postponement of Mount Holyoke’s 183rd Commencement and both Reunions. We all look forward to a moment when we can celebrate in-person the many achievements of the Class of 2020, our Frances Perkins Scholars, and our graduate students, as well as to the occasions when we can come together to renew friendships and to share memories and life experiences.

My thoughts are with all of you, Class of 2020, as well as with every other Mount Holyoke student. This rapid transition to learning and engaging with one another at a distance has raised new questions and brought unanticipated stress. Please know that we support you in your endeavors and that we are here to help you navigate this moment and the completion of your coursework.

I am both heartened by and in awe of the new forms of engagement as well as the creativity and commitment of our faculty and staff. This sudden move to alternative modes of learning and remote work has brought out the best in each of you and in teams, departments, and divisions. Your efforts to assist students and each other in these unprecedented circumstances speak to your commitment to Mount Holyoke’s mission and values, and to the strength and versatility of this extraordinary community.

My thanks and admiration also go to our loyal and generous alumnae. Even as you are engaged in this effort in your communities and in every walk of life, you have demonstrated that we continue to be in your hearts and on your minds, and we are grateful for your devotion to Mount Holyoke. You are fierce advocates for our students, faculty and traditions, and the College is the stronger for it, and for you.

As we continue to navigate these uncharted waters over the coming weeks, you will always find the most up-to-date information on our FAQ page.

Thank you.
