My love for Italy and the Italian language and culture have remained a huge part of my life and are a constant source of joy every day.
My knowledge of Italian was part of the reason why I was hired at a real estate development consultant firm after graduation, and I am periodically called upon often to translate or interpret for an Italian marble vendor, for example.
However, I believe what really made an impression on my company when hiring me was the time and effort spent becoming fluent in this language, and the independence and self-knowledge I gained from studying abroad.
I do not use Italian every day at work, but I do use it almost daily in my personal life. If I need some cheering up, I'll turn on some Italian opera music, or I'll chat with my father, who also learned Italian. I'll make some strangozzi al tartufo, which brings me back to my summers in Umbria. I try to travel to Italy once a year and I always go to the same places.
