Mount Holyoke is a top producer of Fulbrights
Mount Holyoke College made the list of top college producers of Fulbright U.S. students for 2020–2021.
Mount Holyoke College made the list of top college producers of Fulbright U.S. students for 2020-2021. The list was published in the Chronicle of Higher Education on February 15. Eight students from Mount Holyoke College have received Fulbright awards.
“All of these applicants wanted to make a significant social impact with their work, and it didn't matter if they were doing transatlantic historical research, comparing and contrasting the relationship between social media and infectious disease, or teaching English to elementary school kids or college learners,” said Ryan Lewis, the national fellowships advisor in the Office of Student Success and Advising. “Citizen-to-citizen diplomacy is at the heart of the Fulbright U.S. Student Program and I am gratified that Mount Holyoke awardees covered a huge expanse of the globe.”
“I am so very excited for our Fulbright successes and the important work that the winners will be able to accomplish with these prestigious awards,” said Amber Douglas, the dean of studies and director of the Office of Student Success and Advising. “The Fellowships at Mount Holyoke office is a great example of the College’s integrated advising model, where students are supported by their own advising team of mentors through the application process. I’m really proud of the winners and the team that supports them.”
“We are delighted to see that the colleges and universities we are honoring as 2020–2021 Fulbright Top Producing Institutions reflect the geographic and institutional diversity of higher education in the United States,” said Mary Kirk, director of the Office of Academic Exchange Programs in the U.S. Department of State’s Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs.
The Fulbright Program was created to increase mutual understanding between the people of the United States and the people of other countries. Fulbright is the world’s largest and most diverse international educational exchange program. Its primary source of funding is an annual appropriation made by Congress to the State Department.
2021 marks the 75th anniversary of the Fulbright Program. Celebrations throughout the year will highlight the accomplishments and legacy of the program and its alumni over its first 75 years, both in the United States and around the world. A dedicated 75th anniversary website will be updated throughout 2021 to showcase Fulbright alumni, partner countries and anniversary events.
