“So Win” ad written by alum

Nike’s commercial for Super Bowl LIX that called out sexist stereotypes was written by Mount Holyoke College alum Edward “Ted” Malenfant ’13.

Nike’s first Super Bowl commercial in 27 years — featuring high-powered women athletes such as Sha’Carri Richardson, Caitlin Clark and A’ja Wilson — was written by alum Edward “Ted” Malenfant ’13.

The commercial is a stirring black-and-white spot with a voice-over from rapper Doechii. The athletes featured defy all the things sexist stereotypes say they “can’t” do, such as fill stadiums, break records and dominate.

Malenfant is a winner of the Mary Lyon Award, which is given to an alum who graduated within the last 15 years who demonstrates promise or sustained achievement in their life, profession or community that is consistent with the humane values Mary Lyon exemplified in her life and inspired in others.

Speaking to Mount Holyoke students in 2024 when receiving his award, Malenfant said, “I wish I had known right from the jump how much further ahead I was than the people I worked with, just because of the dialogue I got the privilege of being a part of while I was here. You are far more capable than I am.”
