Statement on Title IX

A letter affirming our continued commitment to our current Title IX policy prohibiting gender and sex-based discrimination of any kind.

September 25, 2017

Dear members of the Mount Holyoke College community,

On Friday, Secretary of Education Betsy DeVos issued new Title IX guidance, rescinding prior federal regulations regarding campus sexual misconduct. We are carefully reviewing this guidance and its possible impact on our own policies.

Please know that your safety and well-being are our priority and that we remain committed to Mount Holyoke’s current Title IX policy prohibiting gender and sex-based discrimination of any kind, including sexual misconduct. Sexual violence disproportionately affects women and gender minorities, and our policies offer protections, rights and processes by which we stand. At this time, then, our policy remains in effect and is unchanged by the new guidance.

We support a welcoming living and learning environment where all of our members — students, faculty, staff and visitors — can live and work together in an environment free from discrimination. If you are affected by sexual violence or discrimination, please seek help, and take advantage of the resources available on campus and in our community:

Office of the Title IX Coordinator x2500
Office of Residential Life x2088
Health Services x2121
Counseling Service (24 hours) x2037< br /> Department of Human Resources x2503
Campus Police Department (24 hours) x2304

We will continue to keep you apprised of federal policies and of any impact they may have on our community.

Sincerely,

Sonya Stephens
Acting President
